Lucky me! Another friend came back from her trip to Paris with goodies in hand for moi. I had been very curious about Guerlain's new perfume--Mon Exclusif, a perfume that you are supposed to name yourself. They will engrave the bottle with the name of your choice. It is a sweet, gourmand confection, so I think maybe I would name it, "Mon Parfum Delicieuse" (my delicious perfume). Or if I were to choose an name in English, and since I am an Alice in Wonderland fan, maybe I would call it "Eat Me". I could sit here all day coming up with names for this stuff--super fun! While Guerlain has created the #2 seller of all-time with Shalimar, (after Chanel No.5), Guerlain is a house that does not often jive with me. Chanels are so easy--I love them all. Literally there is nothing from Chanel that I have ever sampled that I outright did not like. I have tried Shalimar in various incarnations including vintage, parfum, EdT, EdP, and Cologne, as well as flankers of it such as Route du Mexique and Parfum Initial. While I respect the house immensely and also respect Shalimar as a divine creation, Shalimar and I just don't jive.. Same with the classic Mitsouko, the modern Insolence, and so many others.
Little by little, I have discovered Guerlains that I love, such as the classic Vol de Nuit, L'Instant, and Winter Delice from their ever-growing Aqua Allegoria collection. Most recently I have been getting into their high-end lines. I've already mentioned me total adoration for Encens Mythique d'Orient in a previous blog. I finally sampled the lovely Cuir Beluga, which has been sitting in my decants box for 3-4 years, and I recently decided to blindly purchase Iris Ganache, a discontinued perfume, while there are still a couple bottles for sale floating around on the planet. I hope I like it! I will review it once it arrives in the mail. From Kuwait. Geez, what us perfumistas go through to obtain these beauties! So I am learning that I am a Guerlain girl after all! With Guerlain there is something for everyone, if you care to search. Click here for the full review of Mon Exclusif as well as the other perfumes I have sampled from Guerlain.

Today was no ordinary day. It was awesome. Why? Because a fellow "'fume head" like me, my cyber-buddy, suddenly appeared on my doorstep. It is not every day that you get to meet a fellow perfume addict! Oh, what fun we had gabbing about perfume, sniffing perfume, and sharing perfume!
We discussed what it is like to be obsessed with perfume; to live in that magical world that nobody else in our lives understands. People like us will forfeit new clothes and shoes in favor of a bottle of the latest scent we have fallen in love with.. He said the funniest thing I have heard in a very long time: "I might look like a dirty slob, but I smell like a million dollars." Only perfume freakazoids like us can understand just how much we are NOT joking. Ave Parfum! So glad you swung by, perfume buddy! There is a new resident in Tauerville. I'd keep my eye on this one! I don't know about you, but I am a tad obsessed with Andy Tauer's flash releases from Tauerville. I enjoyed the jammy confiture of Rose Flash immensely, the best jammy rose perfume I have encountered to date. And then there was the boozy, tobacco-filled Vanilla Flash, which is equally impressive. Now the wicked Incense Flash is here, and it is quite surprising, to be honest. I didn't expect to smell black leather in an incense perfume. I like being caught off-guard with stuff like that. On the whole, Incense Flash feels middle-Eastern in character and darkly mysterious. Think Arabian desert at night. And of course any time there is an incense perfume, people can not help but think of church or other places of worship, and such is the case with this. After all, incense has been used for thousands of years in ceremonies of all kinds, so there is that natural proclivity to link incense to something spiritual. Can't wait to see what he will flash us with next! To read the full review of Incense Flash, click here.
